The Merlion is the official mascot of Singapore, depicted as a mythical creature with a lion’s head and the body of a fish. Spouting water from its mouth, the Merlion statue stands tall at 8.6 metres, weighs 70 tonnes and located in Merlion Park on the edge of Marina Bay.
We were in Singapore in 2002 and shortly afterward the Merlion was relocated from what used to be the mouth of the Singapore River to it’s present location. The relocation process was pretty tricky and makes for an interesting read (Wikipedia). We took a stroll from here to Raffles for a Singapore Sling.
